FTR Custom RiflesThe F/TR rifle was first envisioned by George Farquharson, a Canadian shooter. Dubbed the "F-Class" after Farquharson, the F-Class competitions originally provided an alternative for shooters who lacked the physical ability required to shoot in conventional prone rifle competitions. F-Class has grown in popularity now and in many competitions the F-T/R class will be the biggest division.
See our Photo Gallery of Custom FTR Rifles. Unlike the "F
Open" class where the shooter gets a choice of calibers, the "F Class Target
Rifle" (FTR) category was created for 223 and 308 shooters. For
long-range shooting, 308 is preferred because 223 tends to lose accuracy
after 600 yards. In addition to being constrained to the 223 or 308
caliber, the FTR rifle must use a bipod whereas the F-Open shooter can have
a heavy and elaborate front rest for their rifles. These constraints to FTR make it important to choose a custom FTR rifle that is accurate. There are many factors that influence your ability to win in FTR:
Precision Rifle & Tool is a leader in precision rifles for F-class and FTR competitions, and we boast that our FTR rifles have won dozens of championships. If you want a FTR custom rifle that will win competitions, then your choices are very limited. You need to seek out a gunsmith that will give you personalized support, advise you on the best configuration, and have the skill to create a custom FTR rifle that is accurate to one-half MOA at 1,000 yards. With a custom rifle we built, Mr. Phil Kelley won the NC Long Range Championship. He also set the new World & National Record, doing so with a clean 200-5X at 1000 yards with a .308 in F-T/R Div. The F-T/R Low Boy™ Rifle StockThe “Low Boy”™ T/R stock was designed for the competitive F-T/R shooter. This stock has won the US NRA nationals, many state and regional matches, and has also set world records. The features that make our F-Open “Low Boy”™ stock a winner have been incorporated into this unit. Its ability to be fired from bi-pods with a low profile and still ride the rear bag make it a winning choice for this type competition.
